An independent standard for aesthetic clinics.

Nothing verifies what anyone is told.

Health Canada advises clinics to buy only licensed product from authorised sources; nothing checks whether they do. Professional advertising standards apply to registered practitioners; nothing verifies compliance with them. And a significant part of the sector — including laser and intense pulsed light treatment — sits outside the scope of any regulatory college in British Columbia.

Somebody who ran a clinic and couldn't prove any of it either.

GLONOVA was founded by a clinician who spent eight and a half years running a cosmetic clinic before moving to Canada, and who has been treating patients in Greater Vancouver since 2023. About twelve years in aesthetics altogether — buying the product, hiring the injectors, training the staff, and deciding what to spend on doing it properly.

Which meant seeing the problem from the other side. Doing it properly costs more — the authorised supplier rather than the cheaper one, the better-trained staff, the protocols nobody ever asks to see. And when all of it was done, at higher cost, there was no way for anyone to tell.

That is the part that matters. People considering these treatments often research them carefully. They read reviews, ask friends, look at photographs, compare consultations. And after all of it they still cannot establish who will actually be treating them, where the product came from, or whether the clinic has a plan if something goes wrong — because none of it is published anywhere.

The problem is not that people choose badly. It is that the information that would let anyone choose well does not exist.

Nobody ever published what adequate looks like. That is what GLONOVA is.

Which is also why the founder does not write the standard

Experience of the problem is not authority over the answer. One practitioner should not set criteria applied to four other professions. The standard is authored by the independent council described below — the founder operates verification against criteria he did not write, and holds no vote on their content.

The criteria are not ours.

The standard is authored and revised by an independent council, chaired by a senior clinician or academic, with representatives of every profession lawfully permitted to perform the procedures it covers — physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, dentists and naturopathic doctors — together with lay members representing the public.

Each profession is represented because each is governed by a different college with different rules, and a standard that got any of them wrong would be worth nothing. Not fewer than one third of seats are filled by people the company does not appoint.

The standard is published in full, free to read, before any clinic is assessed against it. Appeals are heard by a person independent of the assessment. And the pass rate is published, because a gate everyone passes is not a gate.

Declared interests

Our founder holds a shareholding in a private clinic. That clinic is permanently ineligible for verification, and he does not assess clinics that compete with it. He also held a part-time clinical contract with a training provider in 2023–24, which has no role in this programme. Both are recorded in full in the governance section of the standard.

Clinics pay. Nobody else does.

Clinics pay an assessment fee, payable whether a category is verified or not. No manufacturer, distributor, supplier or training provider funds the programme, and none has any role in setting the standard or influencing any outcome.

No clinic can pay to be listed, to be listed higher, or to change an assessment result. There is no advertising on this site and no sponsored placement, and there never will be.

We also do not sell training or certification courses, and we never will. Every other body offering certification in this field sells the preparation for its own certificate. That is the reason none of them is independent, and it is the line we will not cross.
